Brexit - It's Being Killed Off

Customs union ain’t going away anytime soon. It’s certainly the bar which will give JC most leverage in a GE scenario. The remoaner wing of the Tory’s will want to see Corbyn’s CU and raise the bet. The Lemming wing led by Boris an escaped mental patient, and Mogger, an eighteenth century relic, will loose all remaining remnants of their sanity and cry foul.

It's not going to happen.
There is likely a new arrangement that will rise from the ashes. That will get Brexit over the line.
Over time I see Ireland wanting closer links to U.K.
Tensions may rise to a level when you have a vote on if your future is with U.K. Or EU.

I trade 50% of our spuds with Rep Ireland so take a close interest in events.
Something like 80% of your exports go to or though U.K. So we are very crucial to your country.

Should Brexit end hard it would be very painful to your country, not that I think it will.

But we are sure to diverge over time which seams certain to leave Rep with a difficult decision at some point ahead.

It now looks more certain that Brexit will happen, so start thinking about how you will manage it rather than dreaming about stopping it.

What exactly is being in a customs union going to dramatically change? all those car manufacturers will f**k off anyway because we're not in the single market, so all you're left with is no jobs, and then no means of making imports cheaper because you're tied to the common commercial policy :S

Give it a few months and you'll be posting a link for a vote on leaving the EEA, as that's a separate treaty

Yes, Brexit will happen. Absolutely. No question. End of story. No argument. Britain will leave the EU.
However ...... “a” Customs Union, will be the most significant and important element of the final and agreed Brexit!
The eitheenth century mummies, escaped mental patients, and a few more freedom fighters will have their mugs on prime time TV, plotting the next revolution.:cautious:
Farage’s Radio show will get even louder and screamier than heretofore.:grumpy:
The DUP, will spout fire and brimstone but will secretly be mightily relieved.

Corbyn meanwhile will get on with the urgent business of nationalising your spud business:eek:

They know that the Brexit in its final Sunday suit, will be of “a” customs union type the same as but labelled different than “the” customs union of the present day!
Customs union doesn't solve regulatory issues.............................. try again ;)

Mere condiments to the main meal. Shake of “regulatory alignment”, followed by a dash of “avoidance of regulatory divergence” should go a long way to keeping that most prized asset of business “ the frictionless border”.
Of course the EU mullahs, will have to swallow some bitter salts such as “realigned freedom of movement” .... or some other such fancy words.

Oh, ....... the ECJ nonsense ..... bit of creativity there also. Some sort of joint well paid quango should do nicely, and give a plum job to a few of those “enemies of the people”. Enough to keep the very worst tabloid banner headlines at bay until Putin sticks an umbrella in some poor sods ass in middle England, to once again reclaim the headlines.

So outside the Eu, complying with the rules the Eu is bitch to under ISO and Unece, no ECJ... seems to be what brexit is to me

It will be a state of purgatory I imaginge. Not in the hell of the EU in a physical sense, albeit still wearing the chains and shackles of regulatory alignment, “a” customs union and occasionally having to tip ones Yorkshire Flatcap to some dork in the ECJ:bored: . Neither will one be in the ultimate hellhole of being a middle weight trade boxer, caught in the ring with the heavyweights and more and more deranged heavyweights. Trump, Xi, and Co! Most people can get on with life in purgatory.

The heavenly state of true Brexit will still not have began attained in this state of purgatory (permanent transition to you and me) and so the fight will have to go on for the true Brexit Mujahadeen. :cautious:

With all the differences between England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, isn’t GB of UK effectively a custom union more than one nation anyway (eg. where is the GB rugby, cricket or football team)?
Isn’t it economically better to be part of a larger Union?
GB has some of the most articulate politicians in the world, surely they have the willingness and ability to influence the direction of travel for EU.
Given the geopolitical developments EU should stand together.

I agree with your post until you say "has some of the most articulate politicians in the world" . Had would probably be more appropriate.

Our politicians are lazy and bone idle, If we had fanatics here like they do in the continent, we would be leading the Eu, but we don't, so we stand idly by as Europe goes in a direction the general public dont want.

It's mostly why socialists run riot in that institution, because they're the ones never happy with the status quo, conservatives tend to like Laissez-faire politics and sitting back, one thing the commission wasn't created for.

But we the public are (have been) guilty of being bone idle where the EU has been concerned. MEP's are voted in on minuscule turnouts, most folk don't even know or care who they are, let alone challenge them about what they are actually doing in Brussels for the benefit UK. And yet they make big decisions that affect us all.
