Remain in the custom union it is. Which of them will have the grace to resign?
And now what will the truly received swivelled eye nutters do? Only buy British designed and built equipment to annoy those Europeans that told them to get a grip?

i dont see the issue, brexit is a process, it doesn't go away, it's not a closed book, once the technology is in place to appease the Irish terrorists, we can diverge on regs/ tariffs as much as we like from the EU.

Those who misunderstand the issues are crowing the most loudly about this.

Won’t make a bit of difference either way, as Europeans won’t buy them!!
Trump will get a little victory for his ego and there will be no real market impact on European manufacturers.
I have a Canadian made car that was similarly priced to EU made, would it have a tariff on it?

Nothing to do with the EU. The UK is looking for a bilateral trade agreement with the US, one factor will be zero tariffs on US built cars imported in to the UK. The main exporters from the US to the UK are currently BMW, Mercedes etc, post Brexit that trade will just get bigger if the UK decides to put tariffs on EU manufactured cars. Cars manufactured in the UK are mostly built for the European market, if the EU puts tariffs on these they will simply be manufactured within Europe in the future.
Why would the EU put a tariff on each UK made car when they need to sell 3 EU cars in the UK?

Yes, the tariffs are only just beginning to be phased out over the next 7 years. Potentially up to 22% saving on Canadian built pickups, but it's unlikely they would ever come to the UK.

We don't know what will have tariffs on, but a hard Brexit just means it will happen. It's not that big a deal, just means your Audi will cost 10% more. The pound dropping in value after the referendum has already had a bigger impact than any future tariff and that didn't affect sales. IMO UK food supplies is the thing to watch with regard to customs, boarders and tariffs and could be a catalyst for civil unrest in the event of a hard Brexit.

As I suspected, not much will happen, stuff will be sold wherever for whatever the customer will pay, IE if we impose a car tariff, VW will lower the price to compete with UK made.

Then there is the supervisory bodies and courts of appeal. Thats where the single market greases the wheels of trade, and eliminate costs and delays.

Extend and pretend by delay and delay will be the order of the day.

Aha, so why do you think Labours customs union rubbish will make them any more popular? CU does nothing to address the above, come brexit day, licences for planes, trains, trucks, big pharma etc will all come to an end without regulatory deals done, the CU does nothing to address this.

I noticed the polling in the Irish times today, on how poor the Irish think their government is doing on brexit, must try harder Leo.

"civil unrest" would that be french farmers up to their old tricks?:D

The current average time at the UK border for a truck is 2 mins. The quickest time for a truck coming into or out of the EU to a third country is 20 mins. The French and Dutch are already starting to build huge lorry parks in anticipation.
 
Umm to my knowledge usa doesnt produce any rh drive vehicles...this is a big import stopper as conversion costs are high...oz would take bucket loads but we dont have the numbers for them to be viable.

Lh drive countries may find usa pickups favourable compated to the 3 to 4 tonne truck market...this is where sales will come from..price comparable with better comfort and dual use.

As for usa cars into eu...corvette mustang styles will find buyers...general fuel effecient 4 door models not so...

The usa is aiming its 1500 & 2500 class pick ups and icon models at the eu...not run off the mill sedans...

The US exports nearly 50,000 vehicles to the UK per year and I assume they are all RHD.
