Amber rudd plans to ignore brexit this morning with the norway + deal which gives us no say in the eu but includes keeping our borders open and carrying on paying into the eu! What planet is she on?!

Really?
Can there be a hard border if a no deal goes ahead?
We can hope for a hard border, it might stop people using services and claiming benefits on both sides of the border but it's unlikely when both sides have said they don't want one.
The biggest problem is there are people who can't accept that there is a border at the moment, some of them can't even say Northern Ireland!
The highly fortified border crossings and the closure of some crossings in the past were an attempt to stop terrorists travelling into Northern Ireland, committing murder and then fleeing back to safety in the Republic of Ireland. Take away the terrorism and you don't need the same level of security.
The common travel area, that dates from the 1920s should take care of the movement of people on these islands and as the Republic of Ireland isn't a member of Schengen, its border with the EU should prevent uncontrolled movements.
The movement of goods would require a certain amount of trust and some goods would get through undeclared but it wouldn't be any worse than what goes on at the moment.

Yes, she is positioning herself as the soft (sensible?) candidate for the possibly soon to be vacant position of PM. I sensed from listening to Kinnock / Johnson on radio yesterday morning that a group of our beloved Parliamentarians are tacking strongly towards going back to EU to suggest the Norway option with maybe the odd tweak. I assume the chancelleries of Europe are smiling this morning - what better than a eunuch in the tribe - payment with no seat at the voting table. The smaller countries of Europe will be laughing all the way to the bank. This Northern Ireland border issue - what a superb card played by the EU countries. Hey ho.

But we in Lincolnshire were told by a Canadian General some years ago that the Semtex and Armalites were all disposed of in good faith by both sides of that sectarian civil war never to be used again. Surely your not suggesting they might start upp again? or is it bluff in this game of poker?

A large part of why a lot of voters opted for Brexit was to limit immigration, leaving a back door into the UK through ROI isn't what was voted for.

Yes . So someone is lieing or they just dont know depending on who you speak to
Not sure if anyone is lying, I'll leave that decision to you, but if you move from having two neighbouring EU member states and take one if them out of Europe, there are more restrictions in place, so they need to be policed.

BTW @Cab-over Pete was looking for you in case you missed the thread about your bet.

I just cannot believe how they can ignore the democratic vote to leave the eu and are trying to give us some sort of watered down , name only brexit. Do they want civil unrest for christmas?

It works both ways.If we crash out with no deal, there will be civil unrest! May knows this, and will have been advised as such.It is why we are where we are.

There you go again, hyperbolic as ever. Leaving for WTO terms is not 'crashing' out, nor falling off a cliff. It is leaving a trading block to work on WTO terms. (y)

It shouldnt work both ways, a democratic vote was held and the government was instructed to remove the uk from the eu. The reason we are in this mess is because they have tried to ignore that instruction. Im starting to think amber rudds plan is actually a plan to scare people into supporting TM's deal. There a crooked mob these politicians.
