I see the EU have given their thoughts on the election result, they don't know if MEP's will vote it through, European court might stop it. because they are worried some EU citizens might be left stateless, well, if they are worried, talk to Boris, I expect he will listen, and act if necessary, if...... they give us a free trade deal !
But it does show the EU's tactics, divide, threaten, interfere, and generally pouring oil onto fire. It is clear that they did not expect the result to be so explicit, and has rather limited their options, of how to respond, and, no doubt, has shown other member states, the true extent, of anti commission feeling, in other states. I am in no doubt, that the commission want's the trade deal to be as hard for the UK, as they can make it, but they have lost the vote, and some of the member states, will put their own economies, ahead of the coms wishes.
It is accepted that the EU economy is stagnant, unemployment is high, compared to the UK announcing the lowest unemployment rate since 1974, and a slowly expanding economy, which may well speed up. I simply do not think member states can afford not to have a good deal, and can therefore protect their own economies.. Time will tell, but it will be interesting to see the commissions negotiating.
