Got a call from Highways the other day asking if I would unlock the large gate along to Bridleway running through the farm to give vehicle access. When I asked why, he said they were putting new signs up. I mentioned that no one had said anything to me and could he send me a plan of where they are to go.
Anyway, they are planning to put 8 blue metal 650mm x 450mm signs up in my hedgerows along with a mounting block on either side of the bridge going over the A1 as apparently some of the girls have issues riding their horses over it and it appears that nowadays, no one can get on or off a horse without a mounting block!!
The problem is, the road is only 15'wide at it's widest and under 12' at it's narrowest and I am concerned about getting large farm traffic past these mounting blocks. I also have issue with the number and garish colour of all these fecking signs. It is going to be a nightmare cutting the hedges!!
I know it is a PROW but presumably the verges and hedges remain under my control and they should need my permission to put these signs up? Also, why do they have to put these big blue signs up? Why can't they put timber signs that are clear and are more suitable for the countryside? The main entrance to my farm is going to look like the bloody M6 Motorway!!
Rant over!
Any suggestions? Anyone know what rights I have over this even if it is on my own land?
I should add that I have said I will not give them access until I have had a meeting with them along with my land agent.
