This is a bit of a long shot but does anyone have a manual for a B&S 252702 Engine.
I have searched the B&S website and managed to get a parts list but not an owners handbook/manual.
Also does anyone know the power rating for this engine ?.

It has not been run for 6 years, so just trying to find out as much as I can before try starting it.

My plan is to remove fuel tank and clear any debris, replace the fuel line, strip and clean carb. There appears to be a healthy spark

OK then so .......................

I'd wet the plug with a sup of petrol, (sprinkle a few drops into the cylinder, as a treat) top the tank up, check for oil in the sump and give her a pull?
They just dont give trouble ............

I would drain the fuel tank, then drop the float bowl off the carb and clean it.

Add a bit of fuel to the tank, check it piddles out the carb.

Refit float bowl.

Add more fuel, try a start.

If there is a large amount of gunk in the float bowl the main jet might be blocked...

But the head gasket wont deteriorate while lying up, but the head bolts are known for coming loose in service.
Leaves them a tad hard to start .............

Well I have managed to get a parts list and owners manual from Briggs & Stratton.
I removed the carb to give it a thorough clean (just as well because float bowl was full of rust.)
Whilst waiting for the new gaskets etc I removed the fuel tank and replaced the fuel line so all being well the fuel side should be OK. There is a decent spark at the plug so once I get the new gaskets I do not see any reason why it should not start.
According to Briggs & Stratton this engine was made in 1979 and was rated at 10 HP

Have you good compression?
Consider a drop of oil in the cylinder to help the rings, if you think its cranking over a little easy.
Lying for the few days while you wait for parts will let it soak in well.
