This was my point.
I see it here, a friend had gone from 60 cows to 75 cows, he wasn't making the money he thought he would and, on getting advice, has now gone to over 100 cows. So he's now working flat out all day every day, he's not happy, his wife's not happy, he has a load more debt but hey the expert says he's more efficient.

Well, it seems to me, where he has gone wrong is basing HIS business on what an outsider has said. Said adviser of course, will knock off 18 hrs Friday until 8 Monday and wonder what on earth he can spend his weekend doing.

Is this guy finishing too rog?

But don't you think that he's bought into the big is better and more efficient?
You read the threads on here, mum and dad plugging on , get it paid off , have a life are lazy , inefficient subsidy junkies. You have to expand to "be someone"

Isn't this what the Chambre are pushing, just like the UK did / do . No account of the poor sod working his socks off to make a better life for his wife and kids. But all the "clever ones" will tell you being busy (a flat out fool) is better even if his family barely see him now.

Maximum efficiency does not mean maximum profitability.

He is very good at what he does but at what personal cost.

He was finishing most, then went to about half and now all broutards.

not all to do with size, you can try to do to much on a small place IMHO
as you get older you have 3 choices imo . Get out work like a dog and carry on or have a biusness that is profitable enough to pay for help so you can have time if . I will leave you with one thought .although i dont know if you are a young buck or a worn out old crock . but whats small and managable to a young buck is a mountain to climb for an older one .

I suppose we all put the line in a different place? As Derrick says above, that line moves with age too. But of course, get a second cow and you double your efficiency, 20 rather than 10, the same. It then becomes what you find manageable (I havnt found that yet). One mans 60 cows could well be another mans 300.
Regarding the chambre, havnt used them ourselves for anything other than claiming the pack, but from folks that have, I am surprised that they don't seem too favour a mixed enterprise (cattle and sheep for e.g.) which I would of thought would bring natural efficiency.

Do people really care how efficient or inefficient British farmers are?

They'll buy what is on the shelf at the right price if they want, else they'll go somewhere else or choose something else.

Do you care how efficient British steelworkers or car makers are? Or do you just make your decision on what to buy when you go to buy it?
i do .its to upsetting to dwell on the past when i think how great we were in the 70ts . luckily most of you are to young to rembember what a great farming country we were

A family came to see our robots a while back. During the chat we mentioned we were usually all done and into the house between 5 & 6pm.
What -says the mother - I`m not having them cluttering up the house before 9 at night
I think the underlying message was she thought we were lazy buggers

Potentially no more "lazy" than the mother herself...!

I have never been impressed by anyone saying how long they work. In fact, is it supposed to be a good thing?

Im sorry but I dont care how efficient or profitable or amazing a business is but 9pm as an early finish is just plain madness in my book if you are doing it routinely.

Ive got a family and there is no way I would be out of home for work like that, its not worth it.

Work to live. Not the other way around.
depends what time you start LOL
