how far, down the xbred, or fr route, can you go, before minus milk bulls, become an issue ? At some stage, the cows will be 'stabilized', systems will become standardized. Then, farmers will look, for more production, having the right cow, in the right system, it will be the next logical step, one of the reasons hols, replaced fr, we just went to far.
Many +constituent bulls, are minus milk, so less, but better milk, which falls into the yield versus quantity argument, which is ongoing. Somewhere, along the 'route', we will want cows, that yield like hols, constituents like jerseys, and health/longevity like xbreds !

Personally I wouldn’t be to worried about using a Holstein that is minus for milk or a friesian really.

Trying to work out a bull for three Goonhilly Perran heifers. Got offered Goonhilly Elijah or Carrickshock GTW amongst others we definatly can't use. Does anyone know whether we could use these or are they too closely related?

Without doing a full in breeding analysis which I would need the dam side as well deangate Centurion is far enough back on GTW and perran not to cause a problem and i could not see a reason you couldn't use Elijah on the bull side.
You can use the AHDB website to do a full inbreeding coefficient if you milk record.
I have a GTW 2nd calver who is great, and a heifer who has just been scored very hard. She's a bit small but everything is in the right place.
I would be using GTW if I was not so heavy on Centurion back a little.

Thank you. I find the whole thing a bit confusing. Must be more so when you are pure as we are still mostly half and half with holstein. We have since been offered some others that should suit. I think. There seems to be a hylke on GTW which has confused me but with a different number. Does this mean it is a different hylke ?
Ended up getting the back pedigree for one to help work it out.
Is the inbreeding coefficient a percentage.? someone mentioned this but we don't milk record so it would not be accessible.
