Winnoch Umpire
Ballycain mascol mars

Patrol dams are
Magalo purchased cow
Bomaz Patch.

Dams go back to when we were using some Holstein bulls
Used a bit of umpire this year, got a bit for this year Although don’t seem to hold that well to it but might be because it’s old, some of the last genus had

We never had much success with Umpire either tbh.

Done us really well.

interesting to see chad 'average' cows, we have some bought in daughters, av sums them up. But he has been the base of so many bulls, so his blood is in 1,000's of cows, exactly why they are 'average'. A lot of fr semen is being used on more hol style cows, so they probably cancel out any minus milk figures, and has a bit of hybrid vigour in the hfrs. It is where the br friesian goes now, that is the important bit, neg milk bulls, will eventually lead to lower cow yields, not important while hol influence is present, but when not....Fr are different to hols, they graze, they are stronger, and longer lasting, everything we want. The future of the fr, is in where they go now, probably already improved strength of cows, they need to continue to strengthen the cow, but they must also look at the production side, low yield was one of the reasons the hol pushed them out. Luckily, we can always add production, with a suitable hol bull, and there are plenty in the line up, that can supply that, and shape. By careful mixing of fr and hol, a suitable type will emerge, i honestly do not think any of us want the fr of 50 years ago back, when they should have been at their 'peak'. The hol breed, has such a vast gene pool to choose from, they will be the first to get the ideal bull, probably H 35% Fr 65%.

Our oldest is a rancher, although did find his daughters to have feet problems, that’s what the others went with

Moet Melody just 👌 near perfection in my herd
Had a few Alphonso, scruffy looking but lasting cows.
Oldest cows now are
Tournament daughters, good cow maker
Skyhigh Lord daughters, improving with age
Regancrest Ireland daughters looking old with age
Benloyal daughters lasting well
The more friesian types if they get over 3rd lactation are improvers.
Where as the more holstein usually look more worn out with udder and legg isues starting to show themselves more with age

Just my obserbation

this shows the difference between fr and hols, they last longer, saying that, we have a 9th calving hol, av 9500l at good constituents, was i/c, re-absorbed, probably for the best. Always being told the hol will produce more milk in 3 lacs than a fr will in 6, don't buy that, add in replacement costs, vet and med, conc, and lower housing costs, makes a mockery of that statement, could add in better milk price, and lower man hours, as well. But it's what you want to farm.

Wilst walking the yard I saw these 2 together. 2 Chad daughters calved in January. They have settled into the herd well and are nice heifers. So far I am happy with or chads.

How does everyone find their friesians in the parlour? I’m finding more and more they are not very well behaved this is across a few different bulls too, Kirkby premier, chad and more

I've never had a chad raise anything more than an eyebrow at me, premier heifers seem to be fine as well, currently milking a dozen fresh heifers from joseph and premier, had to put a kick bar on one heifer this morning and none last night and I'm fairly sure I only had to this morning because I fed them too early as I had to go and get the final couple of cows out of the cubicles which took longer than expected

temperament of those old fr cows was not good, some were fine, others evil, another encouragement to swap to hols.
A AI bull used a lot locally, horwood emperor 25th, his hiefers were sheer evil, skittle nights were nearly like 'the fish that got away', we had a dose of hfrs from him, wonderful cattle, but not many calved a 3rd time, some were never milked without a rope, 1st or 2nd lac, and yet, when the hols started coming through, very seldom bad tempered. Old man bought 2 R&W fr, at a sale, 1 quiet as a lamb, the other, seen that bitch climb over 4 or 5 cows, to get out the herringbone parlour, old man wouldn't sell her, 5 lacs and never milked more than a couple of weeks, each lac, she didn't hold to service, and went ! Just about to calve some fr hfrs, by Bas 8, Riverlino 592, and bernard 26, quiet as can be, but post calving, will hopefully be the same.
Bought some aryshires last aut, not wild, but very headstrong, not being very fit, banned from calving yard, they would walk straight over you, but quiet milking, which is the main thing.

Kiwi bulls used last 15 + years and never used a kick bar
