Brix Results

if i see values falling consistently without explanation I would do a tissue test

the fact levels fall massively after herbicide applications speaks volumes to me

Have also seen research that connects Brix to visibly to aphids (light frequency) wine growers use this to preempt aphid attack

I'm not surprised carbohydrate production falls after using a grassweed herbicide. Its hard on the crop plant

me neither - my point is Brix picks this up so clearly brix is related to the plants health at that time

if it can show that and it drops again for no explainable reason at other points in the growing season surely its time to investigate why

BUT!!!!!! - Brix only tells you about sucrose.

That is my issue with it. Grape growers only use it because sweet grapes = nicer wine. Its nothing to do with nutrition/ yield etc. I just don't see an application for it until it was in my interest to produce higher sucrose grains!

i listened to a podcast that connected Brix to light spectrum emitted - below 12 the light spectrum made crops visible and attractive to aphids, above 12 the crops were effectively invisible to the pest

could maybe explain BYDV not being a big ot regular issue for farmers that use no autumn herbicide ?

would love to see more research in this area

Basically what you need is a number lower first thing in the morning and a by mid afternoon over 12.
This shows that the plant is cycling, and basically during the night it discrete its sugars back through the roots which in turn feed the micro biology, which in turn helps with makings minerals available to the plant.

Always used an autumn herbicide as a pre em only really had bydv when we planted very early and had emergence in mid September but now may have high predictor levels and rarely have wheat emerged before October 1
