Broadcast wheat

Just wondering how did the broadcast wheat work out for people. There was a thread in the autumn from memory. Are results satisfactory. In comparison to other methods. Obviously most methods were not great with the rain this winter

Several did it round here last autumn. It is best to decide early enough and get on with it rather than wait until you've had even more rain after everything else fails.
One of the best bits round here was put in with a Triton (shock horror)

Good point - our bit above was done 10th October, first day last autumn using our venerable last-ditch joke system, having just decided that our 3 more respectable conventional systems would all fail.

Last time we had a 2019 type autumn ( about 20 yrs ago) we drilled 100s of acres with an ancient 511 behind a Case 1494 2wd.
I looked very hard for one this autumn but they are like hens teeth now.
Good friend still drills everything with one on very light land.

Presume you are all talking about an international 511? That's a really good youtube video to see one working.

Are these drills strong enough to DD into stubble?

We had a massive drought here from about 1915 - 1919
Apparently my Grandfather & Great Uncle ( who was not long home from WW1 serving in the Light Horse in Palestine ) decided that this was the year it was going to break, 1919.
Roy ( my grand father ) broadcast 900 acres of wheat by hand while Rex ( my great uncle ) followed him with horses dragging some harrows.
By all accounts, it was a roaring success.
But - they were very lucky & the hoped for rain fell at the right time. . .
