Broadway/pacifica cold nights

I did mine yesterday as this morning was looking the warmest for about a week. Does a frost two nights later do any damage?

Did plan on doing mine yesterday but a lift pump failure on the sprayer put a stop to that idea, fixed it but looks a tad on the windy side here this morn. Will sit tight and do it next week. No frost this morn!!!

As mentioned above more important than a slight frost is the difference between max and min temperatures being 10/12 degrees at most. A great deal is made here of humidity as well. Ideally 70% plus though we go down to 60% if needs must. So its generally one load in the morning then another going into the evening avoiding the drier middle of the day.

There are two issues. Active weed growth to take the herbicide in properly and diurnal temperature differences that will cause crop and weed stress.

It is better to treat when coming into a cold spell than it is coming out of one. It takes time for the soil to warm up, especially if it is wet. You need at least 6 degrees at 4” deep at 9-10am for good control with Atlantis/Pacifica products and a couple more degrees for Broadway/Palio.

Big swings in daytime and nighttime temperatures will put the crop and weeds under stress which can result in crop damage and reduced control.

Be very careful with tank mixing SU graminicides with PGRs, fungicides and trace elements. Be aware that SU herbicides are sensitive to hard water, so consider water conditioners. SUs are affected differently to glyphosate so do not assume that adding ammonium sulphate or acidifiers will deal with it. Always consult a BASIS registered agronomist and/or the technical helpline of the product manufacturer.

Oh dear. I was told the opposite today. Also, NIAB say temp at the time of application is everything (although take the point about diurnal variability and crop stress).
My point was about having an actively growing target weed at the time of application and soon afterwards.

I have both Hatra and Palio to apply to wheat fields but we had -3 degrees last night but with 12 degrees this afternoon. I will wait for the nights to get warmer before applying them.

Oh dear. I did some today. Maybe had better wait until end of the week then more.

I remember doing some BWay Star about 2 or 3 years ago and used no Kantor and went too early (probably earlier than now) and I had very poor control.

The last two years I've tried to go a lot later and have a rule of thumb of last few days of March/ early April. Even if the risk of brome getting too strong I think its worth it vs poor control early on. Fine balance though
