Broken metal in 4.98 sump ID

Guy on another forum has found this in the sump. I never have had the bottom end apart on a Leyland engine but is it a bearing cage?

I am certainly no expert on Leyland engines, they were generally pretty solid, in fact that was the best and worst part of those tractors, it would never die and you were desperate it would
However back to the post , i remember there was an issue some had with the harmonic balancer could this be it. I have never seen one apart

I wondered that but it is in a JCB power train and I thought they did not have the balancer?

Don't think it's a Powertrain Pete or at least didn't see it mentioned as being one. As far as I can see,there are only bushes in the balancer gears too. It's a mystery....

Ah sorry, perhaps saw Mk111 and jumped to conclusions. Hard to believe that quantity got in there externally, who knows?

Update. The guy, with some help from Charnleys and Agrimax, has identified the broken bearing as being likely to be from the powers steering pump idler (driven by gears at the front end)
