Brook Lampreys

We live in The East Devon River axe catchment. While swallows and Martins are welcome signs of spring we also have the pleasure of Brook Lampreys that have been running for the last 3 weeks. Do any of you see these every year and if so on which river systems. Here are some photos from yesterday:

Very occasionally we get an albino Lamprey how they survive predators is a mystery to me, again from yesterday:

Fascinating - didn't Henry the first die of eating too many lampreys?

Yep, we get them spawning every year in the little brook running through our farm. Always look out for them around now. Love seeing them. Wouldn't really want to eat one though! Catchment is Pevensey Levels.

We have much nicer things to eat now, but I guess if you had to eat fish on Fridays and there was nothing else...
