Well constant snow since 6 this morning, it has put down several inches on fields that were clear before, but it is having the effect of warming the ice on the lanes so that is melting pretty quick, drifting more on the tops I managed to walk the drifts earlier, they are solid, but this new on top has put a stop to that, dont mind admitting I an knackered.

I'm seriously beginning to think we are in uncharted territory regards the weather.
A point must come when this needs flagging up for mid April lambers.start the 18th here and i thought we'd be past the worst of it,not a chance looking at the outputs.
Fodder is going to become very more expensive than it now is.

Ive been looking at these models GSM JMA ECWM and whatever else they are called, yes we are sitting in cold air for most of the time, some of them show less cold into next week but they don't seem to show cloud cover very well. Once we are into April and we see some sunshine that will help no end, the sun should be getting stronger now and should radiate some heat to melt snow and get crops going. Trouble is up here in the North East I think if I have seen 5 minutes sunshine in the last 2 weeks that would be all.

That's the problem Bob,loads of potential radiated warmth above the clouds this time of year.
Problem is getting cloud break though.until that jetstream comes back North and puts us in our usual zonal flow (west to east) we are on a wing and a prayer so to speak.

Was only thinking today that there is potential for a serious situation even down here with no snow at all. The grass isn`t growing very quick if at all, we have had ewes and lambs turned out for about 3 weeks and their fields are now yellow! nothing left for them.
Now the dairy cows should be going out around mid April, if this continues until then they to will be out of grass in 2 or 3 weeks!, very little silage left in clamp, what would we do?

aye snow aint the issue to me for now.i'm more worried about temps and the lack of growth in the field.
if God forbid the cold breakdown is associated with a return of the jetstream and it's wet conditions.that wont bode well to us up here as the cold air hangs on to our east.
18th and counting.

Bloody horrific outputs tonight for anything on the warmer side, one saving grace is the lack of precip i suppose.

Dire outputs yet again,i really feel for some producers and not forgetting small independent plant nurserys.
the big boys with their cafes and restaurants will survive no doubt.

An Atlantic change is brewing folks, still got a well below seasonal week to get out of the way first though.
This will come in as a shock when it does arrive.
