I’ve got a 3.5 ton Takeuchi TB135 I’m willing to part with if I can get the go ahead on its replacement in the nr future.

5500hrs with Hyd Q hitch and 6 buckets 4 of witch have had new blades fairly recently.
For any 'build' do not go below 3 tons. You will need all the power and capacity of a 3 tonner and below this you'll really struggle. I have a 7.5 ton machine and most of the time is is on less than 1000RPM to dig. Ok not for you but something to seriously consider.
Look at Takeuchi TB235 as an example.

Thanks. Yea we are looking for 3 tonne/ 3.5 tonne. It's for small build and needs to be moved around after that.

Just the simple act of loading a trailer or dumper will be beyond a smaller machine.
I have a 'micro' digger and I have to load my tractor bucket first & then into the trailer. 'Tis great in a room, scraping up old brickwork and gardening but not for actual building digs

Trouble is you can't move anything bigger than a 2.5t on a trailer. Not possible.

That's never been any problem. If you are doing a long time build then why does it want moving?
If I want my bigger machine moving then there are several folk I can call and this is taken into the job as ever with a haulage cost.
Never be put off with haulage there's always someone willing and able to do this for a reasonable fee. (y)

Any diggers in ireland that I've looked at are rough and out of my price range. Lot of rust for the money.6000 sterling or about 7000 euros.
The trailer could be €1000 so you are only leaving 5000 for the machine. At that price it will have a lot of hours/problems you might have to be good with spanners and mending hydraulic hoses and if it is imported the dealer is not sailing over to Ireland to fix it.
We built a house and used a local man with a JCB 3c. Strong enough to dig the foundations and flexible enough that he would come back for 2 hours for the septic tank or other services. I presume it is a self-build so the exact timings are less important. You can also shift a ton of dirt and rubble with a shovel and barrow quite quickly
We have hired in a 13 tonner several times and the mechanic will often have to visit for problems. If we owned it the bills could be huge

My husband is a builder and he was going to use the digger himself after the build is finished for extensions and renovations instead of hiring one all the time

Then the client will pay the haulage. Or you sell and get a smaller machine.
TBH I found it easier to hire then you have exactly the right machine for that particular job.
My 7.5 tonner is perfect for what I do here in sunny Suffolk but if I was going out to do building work then it could cause problems as an 8' wide machine simply won't fit through a 3' gateway! :ROFLMAO:
