BT open reach be careful

Just a warning. I have had a call from somebody claiming to be from open reach. Apparently they were doing work on the lines and needed a speed test done. I was very suspicious and played along for a while. I was eventually transferred to the engineer who had no idea of where I was or the lack of any decent phone lines to the village. I told them I did not believe they were from openreach and they hung up.

I am sure it was some sort of scam to get logged onto my computer. Just be careful if you get the same call.

Had similar here. Someone with a Pakistani or Indian accent called Justin called wanting to do a speed test on our BT broadband. We don't have BT broadband!

mine was John Smith, Indian accent. Asked which city i am in. Only 20 houses in the village. They did know the business name and postcode though, so must have a copy of the phone book.

Same with their on-line billing scammers wanting you to log in. Always look at the email address, BT never use a personal name on their email address i.e [davejones@btinternet] and they will always use your name on the mail heading.

I wound one of them up so much after keeping them on the phone for 10 to 15 minutes and then popping the question "are your children proud of what you do for a living", few moments silence then a few choice words thrown each way!
Best thing was he phoned back 2 or 3 times to keep the insults coming.................:LOL:

At least it kept him off the phone to someone who could get scammed for a while, I'm sure I will get it wrong and be telling my bank manager to F off one of these days:rolleyes::rolleyes::whistle:

I've had several calls from companies claiming to be Microsoft telling me I have a problem with my computer. I have 4 different ones (no, 3 are discussed I don't actually use 4!) I always reply "which one"? When that is ignored I tell them "you have the problem, not me" then hang up!

BT have the technology to block all these calls. I pay them enough for the line rental, why should I spend another £100 for stuff they should be doing? :banghead:

I put on the "daft ol' biddy" act - it comes naturally.... Router? What is that? Oh, the flashing lighty thing in the corner? Oh, my grandson does that.....hang on, I will go and unplug it for you so we can talk about it, so pleased you phoned, havent talked to anyone all week...Windows? Yes, I have windows, shall I close them for you, are you in a draft, oh dear, would you like a cup of tea, hang on, I will put the kettle on....:geek:

The weirdest one I had was someone with an Indian type accent asking me if I was getting on OK with my Bosch Washing Machine. I replied "Yes thank you, why do you ask?" and he hung up!
