Hi,

With the impending closure of schools, the kids might need to access school lessons on-line. Currently the BT broadband wifi hub thingy doesn't reach their rooms due to thick stone walls in the house.

So i think i need a powerline extender ( is this right?). The variety on amazon is vast - does anyone have any experience or advice as to what to or not to buy?

thanks in advance

Ive got some devalo wifi powerline adapters running over 100m to a building, very successful and easy to set up. Think i had a set of 3 off Amazon for £55 ish

I've used these powerline devices, which effectively uses the electrical wiring as ethernet cables.
They seem good initially...
However, I've found that after a year or 2 they burn out and no longer work.
Good for short use periods, but not a permanent solution in my case.
Tried various brands and finally gave up and used proper ethernet and wifi access points in the end.
Not as convenient to setup, but there you go.

Your luck might be better than mine however.

I think the most robust solution, if possible is to run a cat 5e or 6 cable to the other end of the house with a Wifi access point at the end of it. Something like this gives you wifi & also 4 sockets in the back for wired connections Other advantage is should transmit full speed to other end.
NETGEAR AC2000 Dual Band 4x4 Wireless Access Point
Loads of options, out there Cheapest is probably the ones that plug into a leccy socket. - pair of these
Netgear EX2700 WiFi Range Extender - but note @rollestonpark comments above

My experience is that socket plug ins are terribly slow.
the best if possible is ethernet cabling.
second extender to extender.
i use a netgear router as the Bt hub is sh**e .
then extenders, but they have a limited life.
fairly simple to set up
