We had another version of an Evolution at work and was perfect intill someone hit the emergency button while I was securing the chain to hold it up on a trailer headboard! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

The fall somehow killed one magnet unfortunately but woukd definately consider another one.

I use an evaluation for that very reason, they do the job, but don’t cost a fortune if they get dropped!

I have had one for prob 3 years. Been dropped a few times... 2 years warranty I think? A few months ago someone disconnected the power when it was on a girder. It broke the gearbox casing..... phoned evolution a new casing was £30. Had a set of brushes for the motor they were £5. I’d def have another

Thanks for the replies!.... It all seems positive enough. I think I'll go ahead with the Evolution. The Rotabroach Panther looks like a good alternative too, especially with the variable speed, but as far as I can see on their website, there's only a 110v version available.....

I have the evo42 here too, I bought it over the rotabroach element 40 i was offered because it was lighter, had a stronger motor and more powerful magnet, haven’t been disappointed so far. The longer guide is useful for adding a chuck and conventional drill bit too

Old thread but just wondering has much changed in mag drills in the past two years? Looking for a new one to kit a new shed out and for other farm jobs. Saw a shed being kitted out a few months ago by a firm and they had a Jefferson. What are they like?

Just bought a mag drill for farm/workshop use. I wanted something quality at a fair price even better it was a UK firm. Have a look at JEI, the drill is just fantastic, makes light work of 28mm holes in 20mm thick plate. I had a few queries so I rang the firm direct and they answered any questions. Top people to deal with and they are available on magdrills.com, I’m in no way affiliated just a very happy customer, a good solid drill that should last a while.

Has anyone any experience of, or opinion on this drill? I am not even familiar with the brand name...
Anyway, while it certainly wouldn't be over worked with me, I'd like something that would be up to the job the times I do use it......

Definitely recommend one with speeds or ideally variable speeds.

There also usefull for allsorts of things once you start using one!

Heres my cheap unibore EQ100 swivel base.
If going big then a swivel base is a must have in my opinion!
I say mines cheap cause it is in terms of 100mm mag drills! There are far more expensive better ones out there than mine.

Things cropped up so I didn’t get to order a mag but need one now for the weekend. Just wondering what’s the mostly used cutters you guys find yourself using around the farm? The Rotabroach do sets so would they be good enough?

Is there a difference in size in the machine between 30/35/40mm etc?

Why does MagDrill sell Rotabroach Panther and on the Rotabroach website, they advertise the ‘Element’?

I’m trying to factor in what size of Drill I would need, 30/35/40 to be safe for future use and if better to buy the cutters in a set or individually?

Personally I buy the cutters as individuals- depending on what you're doing obviously.

For me, it's mostly holing for bolting so generally go +2mm on hole size to bolt. So M12 would have a 14 dia hole and so forth. Sizes used the most are 14, 18 & 22 here.

Personal view is the sets are alright if you're just setting up but once up and running it's better to buy the cutters as individuals
