Budget predictions ?

Temporary exemption on stamp duty for property buyers on sales under £500k seems to be a firm idea- I expect in due course the current exemption on capital gains on your primary residential property will have to be changed to become a taxed income provision for the Government.

I fully expect an increase in fuel duty, alcohol, tobacco etc the soft targets so to speak. This will please the green lobby no end. Road fund tax increases is another option. I could go on but !!!

I agree, I am expecting to have to wait a couple of years before big tax rises.
Not worrying about it this year too much in any case.

Government is stuck between a rock and a hard place through no fault of their own.

Labour on the TV wanting everything for nothing again.
To be fair that is what government is there for,to make the difficult decisions for society in peacetime and war.

We are at war!

They need to just crack on and make the difficult decisions, the really difficult ones will be in a few years when UK plc credit card is maxed out.

Fuel taxes are a tap in at the moment. Fuel is cheap, not much has been bought or used lately comparatively and pollution levels are low which is pleasing everyone. Easy increase to push through right now.

Bet Rushi would like to go hard after American tech companies but US trade deals would be jeopardized

Tinkering with vat on some items, fuel duty (but not on planes where it should be) and stamp duty have been flagged.

Can’t see them going that far. VAT brought in a little over £130 billion last year, 20% of all HMRC receipts.

That’s a big ‘ole chunk of tax revenue.
VAT was introduced as part of the process of joining the EEC, since we are now leaving, we can adjust the vat rate without asking permission from the EU.
My understanding is that the EU coffers are filled with a %age take from each countries Vat revenue. Happy to be corrected.

Stop oversees aid for starters, drop all business taxes below all of the eu to get investment flooding in,slash red tape on business to get the sponges off our backs, give every tax payer a lump sum to spend on the high street, that will do for starters
