Budget predictions ?

Small hobby farm near me in west of Ireland purchased over the phone last week by an English couple. Neither had ever been to Ireland don’t have any connections. Estate agent told me they just wanted out of London, to go as far west as possible, without going to America. There’s a run down old farmhouse on it, so I guess they can go from there.
Two houses sold in the village sight unseen also to Londoners. Always fancied west of Ireland as an escape. Covid and crowded city, just made their mind up.
The Irish migrated to the English cities for yonks.
Are we about to see the reverse happen now?
Covid has many, many long term implications for all places and people!!
My best friend and his wife moved to Tipperary 16 years ago, they have made lots of good friends with some lovely people, but by which does itvrsin, everytime we go it seems to rain, or snow.

I think Wogan came from west coast of Ireland and said it was all he remembered as a kid, peddling his bike to school in the driving rain.

Tipperary is for softies. Their rainfall is one third of the west coast. 70% of the county is some of the best land in Europe! Easy peezy!!

Now the couple who have bought near me ... theres work ahead of them.?
But you would be surprised just how many English people in particular just buy a small place on the west coast here. They pretty much all make a go of it. A lot a artisan food and general veg producers, doing their craft and selling at local markets. Few of them work part time on local farms as well.
In an ironic twist, I think Covid will lead to a regeneration of small agricultural communities. There certainly will be a growth curve. A second wave next winter, will really underpin that.

When we have been there it seems there is bugger all for kids to do, the contrast between there and Dublin is like London and Barrow in Furness

With the budget one week away what are everyone's predictions?

I think that Rishi will find another money tree, with us still being in recovery mode they will be looking to pump money out into the economy to see it recover at pace.

SDLT holiday will be extended as mentioned today, but that will be it.

Corporation tax to increase as it has minimal impact on the mainstream voters.

No immediate risk in CGT or change to IHT but a further review looking to reform the two taxes.

Increase in fuel duty and a phased removal of red diesel relief.

Suppose it depends how much more he and the cabinet want to enrich themselves and their cronies, one thing for sure treasury minds will be working hard to come up with a plan to screw the masses whilst protecting the cabinets billionaire backers.

I think the biggest difference for most on TFF will be change to National Insurance. Stated self employed to pay more. I also think that working pensioners will be subject to a reduced level of NI say 5%. Hope it is not retrospective having only just got there. Look at the pie chart NI the biggest money collector. Easy tax on the eye as older people have benefited most and suffered least and this tax only on profits so only affecting people making money although that may include pensions. They will have to be careful how it is worded or a lot of working pensioners may stop although that might be the scheme to create more jobs for the young.
NI changes my biggest bet.

There will be nothing radical. There can't be.

There is money in collective bank accounts though so if they can't get people spending.

There should really be a windfall tax on supermarkets.

i think rishi, same as all the other western country chancellors are going to just delete a couple of zeros off the overdraft bank balance, surely if every country just pretends they didn’t spend that money then it’s fine?

Modern day money is just a concept it’s not like there is x amount of trillions of gold sat in a vault somewhere now.

If there is it will be 20p on a pint of beer but without the 35p cut that the on trade want in the pubs. Warehouses will be set for a clatter to make up for lower high street rates. Catches the supermarkets too.
