My dad, bless him, always leaves tractors in gear. He also bizarrely pushes the stop control knob in, " ready for next time ".
Back in the mid 60's, due to an electrical fault, and the above combination, his Ford 3000 started up on it's own, drove itself across the yard, and embedded itself in a hedge.

I always leave my (stop control ) knob out.

On the 56 I push it back in the rest are left pulled out.
Me and dad always leave in gear. But he and dunno why he does it and dunno why but it drives me within an inch of beating him, he leaves the ones with electric shuttles in gear drives me cucking mental

Like my old man insists on "blipping" the throttle before shooting tractors off. I've explained to him that it can't kill turbos but he says it hadn't killed any of his yet
