Is there planning permission required for making a dam. Thinkin about doin a dam to store water power for milking time to run a hydro

Worse than that. Approval from the environment Agency.

Take it that would be a big no then or would it be looked on favourably as in for wildlife

Be better as a flood prevention scheme which is how I managed to get mine. Since 2012 responsibility has been delegated for consents from the EA to the local council but if you have EA approval as a flood prevention scheme it should go through the council on the nod. Well it did with me anyway.
