The Covid pandemic has increased the amount of consumers going direct to farms for their food products be that via farm shops, on farm vending machines or deliveries.

Selling direct can provide a number of benefits including greater price realisation.

Keeping in mind that consumer trust in British sourced food is up and they are more focused than ever on the environmental impact of what they eat....

Do you think Farm businesses will need to look at employing marketing support (consultancy or agencies) to increase awareness and promote themselves directly to consumers/local buyers?

I have several farm vending operations near to me in Chester and they have both do this marketing exercise themselves via mainstream social media and a bit of local press involvement.

One of them only started just before Christmas and are clearing between 400 and 700 litres a day which is astonishing.

The reaction they are getting by simply pushing the “local” & “healthy” cards has been fantastic and despite restrictions they have people travellingfrom far and wide to taste their amazing milk.

Two or three hours spent on You Tube learning what to do on Facebook and Instagram to get your posts noticed and to keep them relevant is all that is needed.

The revenue difference as we all know is substantial
