they 'cold called' me, couple of weeks ago, looking for calves, 1 bad experience enough, got my dairy bulls sold locally, might get less for them, but the 'goodwill' is worth a lot. !

Friend had Half a kilo under spec, AA heifer, asked for it back, couldn't as was TB restricted.
Paid less than tag price.

Calves, yes plural, loaded onto haulier, fine when left, "treated and died" at collection centre. Paid zero. Tried to claim off haulier told to speak to buyer. Supplier pays for haulage but has zero come back on haulier.

Think all this will change as less calves to be sold into finishing.

hear about the same, hear it repeatedly, but, all sounds very good, probably is, if you can achieve the tight spec.
which is the problem.
It all very well having a tight spec, but what do you do with the out of spec product?
It goes to market and then shows a lower value and thats what the rest base their prices on.

have heard of aa calves making peanuts through b then next lot, selling very well at market. Its horses for courses, if you find them ok, fine, if you don't, sell calves elsewhere, it must suit some farmers, they are still going, but, especially on rearing for them, miss that spec, and its ouch.

We sent them some calves this winter and never again to be honest. They paid well enough for the first batch then ended up raping uson the second batch if they hadn't made the kilo LW gain by a certain age. They tried to get away paying us £80 for 6 week old Simmy heifers, absolutely disgusting, there was nothing wrong with them so I rang up and complained and they upped it to £150.

How does there weighing and grading mechanism work? Is it a set price for x kg then more for anything above that?

and the avalanche of replies...……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………?
first came upon the 'forerunner' in 2001 FM, came to quote for a large bunch of stores, his offer was so low, he got told to p-off, i just walked away, left them there. They did start to offer more, told them to go, not interested. At the time, i was buying calves/stirks ex farm, i usually offered more, for the ones they wouldn't take, so i am very dubious, and will not deal with them. They might be different today.

I have respect for Buitellar and the family as they are great business people, but have any farmers ever earned anything out the job?
