Bumper harvest?

Would agree with you there lexion it all looked great even better than our record breaking harvest of 2011 .
Then the rain came and the fusarium took hold ended up been a very disappointing harvest compounded by the 15 odd quid deductions for the low bushels.
I hope your right Paul but don’t count the chickens before they hatch!

Driving round the country crops look very well and now the rain has removed fears of drought are we looking at a record harvest this year?

The drought has already damaged spring crops - in places there are very few tillers and short main stems. Oilseed rape ravaged by cabbage stem flea beetle and the gaps in the crop now full of weeds and pigeons. Definitely not a bumper harvest for these. Wheat looks ok but now needs sunshine without too much heat to fill the grains.

Osr looks highly variable. I've put in 4t/ha over the whole block as a guesstimate. Baring in mind a lot of poor osr is now spring barley. I'd like to say the crops in general look good but will wait and see. All potential at the moment.

For once I think my spring crops will be a bumper harvest. Never known it possible to plant spring barley in February before. Pretty thick cover and reasonable length straw too. Beats the last few years where we've had a drought as soon as it was planted....in April/May.

Was out stewarding the local farms competition yesterday, and generally well farmed crops looked well, but there are issues with variable germination in spring crops and the usual blackgrass in winters to temper the enthusiasm.
We did not see any light land crops, but I gather some of those suffered irrepairable damage earlier this year.

The potential is there, no doubt ,but we are still some way from the finishing line...

Remember 2012?
Yes. Its nothing like it so far, apart from last 2 weeks been wet.

This will probably jinx it but potential there for a bumper harvest.

Took 21 bales/acre off a 27 acre silage field yesterday! It won't win any prizes for quality, was 2 weeks late being cut. If anyone else told me that I'd call BS!

Satellite yield prediction here suggesting a near 10t average for wheat which would be a farm record if it happened

Shows lower potential for OSR of 3.6t despite it looking ok and no bare bits etc so disappointing there, lower than the last 5 years

Beans look like crop of the year potentially

Oats look poor and suffered through the dry spell

All depends upon weather between now and harvest though, cool but sunny days required now

Can't see spring sown crops breaking any records , winter crops need some sun .
