I would have thought this is slightly less reliant on Glyphosate than direct drilling into stubbles - the tall stuff outcompetes a lot of the smaller weeds and then just snaps off when you go through with the drill. Still wouldn't like to go without spraying it off though.

Did it last year into wheat after OSR, was about knee high. Drilled first week of Oct and spraying conditions were all over the place, some fields were sprayed off before and some after drilling. Couldn't tell the difference.
This cover is the largest I have, was drilled in June into failed linseed. Will be applying a stiff rate of slug pellets soon, too.
If the seed is well firmed in the slot does it need slug pellets once the wheat is emerging slug are a bigger risk
but is they have plenty of other material to go at they will struggle to find the wheat

my biggest risk Of slugs is after beans with no green the only food they have is wheat

The sunflowers, volunteer OSR etc have enough greenery to support a decent slug population now, but after spraying off they soon become unpalatable, and the slugs start getting hungry. Decent quality ferric pellets should last the two weeks between now and emergence, if the slugs don't want to eat them right away.

If it rains they will have dissolved the wheat emerges and you need another dose

pigeons and crows here clean up a lot of slugs before emergance Mostly wheat is at 3 leaf before the slugs graze the wheat
