Burning Grain in Biomass Boiler

Although not currently allowed under RHI , going forward when this subsidy expires I wondered how different boilers perform on burning Grain ? I know the Guntamatic will happily burn cereals , any one had experience of the ETA Hack in this role ?

The REFO boilers have no problem burning grain. Know someone who runs his REFO boiler on gleanings.

I have heard that oats will burn very well in most boilers, they burn away leaving very little ash.

Why do they not allow it, you would think it makes more sense than burning timber that takes 30years to grow

Be very careful burning grain in boilers that are not designed for it. I believe the residue is very aggressive on the internal components.

Used grain in a KSM boiler for 15 years. Added 1-2% lime usually, mainly to stop formation of clinkers.Just ultrasound tested boiler today….negligible corrosion throughout. Apart from one section which has swollen and this has caused a breakdown.Should be an easy fix.
KSM was chosen because they are specked to use grains.

A local 'early adopter' of biomass chp and burners also runs an animal feed business and has offices on site. Certainly he often ran the offices heating on grain store cleanings.
