Burnt tractor parts

The oil burning off would probably make them harder
how come?
the oil is just another source of fuel.
Oil quenching is different - it is utiliing the specific heat capacity of the oil to achieve a set cooling rate, rather than the chemical properties of the oil itself

What temperature does a tractor fire typically get to? The location of the start of the fire will have big effect on how hot the hitch got. I think it would be unlikely to have gotten hot enough to change the mechanical properties of the steel.
Id go for it if it were me.

Years ago I went to look at a warehouse full of combines. The next door warehouse had burnt down and the combines had got a degree of damage depending how close they were . Think there was a total of a couple of hundred. The insurance had written the lot off. Sadly I got there too late as all the good ones had been bagged before I got there leaving a lot with panel damage, and weeping seals and bearings. Think the best ones probably ended up in dealers yards and were bought with no inkling of where they had been.
Panel damage is indeed always going to rot out fast, but heavy items will not hurt. The engines on all of them looked fine underneath the hoods

i see two types of burnt tractors those in a field fire not to bad but those in a building they are really cooked . so to the pu hitch you will have to make your mind up yourself but its you thats doing time if it all goes wrong !!!!!

Well, the Agribuggy I rebuilt, was burnt to a crisp (well the front end was) is fine and not fallen apart yet, think it's been 4-5years since.

How much is a new hitch? Second hand parts are usually half the price of new parts but a hitch will be a lot more expensive through a main dealer than an aftermarket parts supplier who buys direct from Dromone.
