Bus Stop!

When I got the highways back after the damage they did to my land while not mending the bridge, the guy was very dismissive. One of the things they had done was cut up the verge and he said they could tar that and make it a passing place, but I pointed out that the council did not own it, and if they made it a passing place on my property, I would charge. I mentioned a figure and he backtracked so fast, he was in danger of disappearing up his own fundiment.
I was slightly annoyed and I think he got a wee bit frightened as he got in his car and drove off at speed. Still in negotiations...:cautious:

Sorry to hear this tbh, people just take the Mick don't they? had someone from council up yesterday, telling us to get a field sorted out as it has a public footpath running through, prolly so the general public can't get there feet muddy!:LOL: we are sorting out that field anyway this summer, reseeding everything :) somehow I don't think they realise farmers are not made of money. No one uses it anyway and the footpath is so Ill designed it cuts right through neighbours farmyard!! (n)

Don’t think they can make you sort the field out if it’s muddy it’s force majeure....they can only stop you from blocking access and you need to spray a strip off if it’s in wheat....I’d tell them to swing

Or take it down and put it somewhere it would be handy to have a bus-stop, such as outside the pub.

In practice how many people will actually use the bus stop in a rural area? The buses round here, the few there are, can be hailed anywhere on route.
Given that fact i see no purpose for a bus stop let alone a sign fixed to private property. I suggest you take it to the council office and fix it to the reception desk with some nails or tex screws!

Edit
Ops the reason i quoted @Red Fred post was to say a bus stop on way back from pub would be far more useful than bus stop at said hostelry

It does seem strange putting a bus stop there as a lot of rural route are just put your hand up and the bus driver stops as long as it’s a safe place to do so, but most people who use the bus would know anyway.

It's hard enough to get them to stop at designated stops round here, let alone random locations, that is of course if you are fortunate enough to even see a bus.

One of the problems of the buses is the free bus passes and the councils cutting the subsidies to the bus companies. They are like any other business they need to make a profit. If everyone getting on the bus is traveling for free then there is not much money to be made for them.

With a Service route they'll be getting a fuel rebate aswell and the free pass travel will be claimed as a concession from the Government.

There's been a few cases of fraud where bus companies have been a been putting through far more concessions than have travelled.

A lot of the subsidies have been cut.. but a lot have been binned due to another operator registering the same route but as a commercial route. The Councils usually pull the plug on subsidised routes if someone registers the route as a commercial.
