Buy - 200 hp tractor

There was a lad quite local to us who got a 200 hp fergie and he spoke to a tyre specialist before he specced the tyres and he got told to stay away from
42 inch tyres as they don't give the same grip. He was recommended 650/75/38 as the specialists opinion was they were the best gripping tyre for sowing and cultivating and most other jobs a tractor of that size does. And having seeing it at work with a 4m kv cultivator working a 18 inch deep the tyres coped no bother with it and he had no weights on the front either.

Just doing a few calculations - the duals I currently run (20.8r38's) should still fit this size - as the duals are quite worn! (y)

No they won't. They will be equal to 650/65r38.
makes sod all difference.
I would stick to 38,s if you use duals as they are easier put on, unlike 42,s that are a barsteward to fit, and dangerous.
Tractors on 710 tyres are a pain to sell as a lot of farmers cant use 710 if they plough.

When we bought Fendt 716 on 650's were told not to use duels, used them two drilling seasons, cracked centres both years!

Should of listened, also should have learned after first year.

Now have one on 650/38 (not using duels) other on 540/42 for plough

Fendt wheels must be crap, or your driver has been giving them hell. possibly driving down a narrow lane with all the weight on outside wheeels?
I have been using duals on 200 hp for 20years without breaking anything.

I think you maybe missed the point, it's not the 200hp but the 650 tyres plus duels are so wide that they scrub (think lorry tri-axle, only width not length).

Wheel centres maybe crap, Owner driver, so try to be careful about weight on duels only, no duels no cracks!
