Buying a MF 6475

Lads I went and drove a 6475 in a garage 1 hour away. My god it was ruff as hell. No suspension but the seat was really loose. I did notice on today’s tractor that the button on the T Bar was also black. And similar condition.
The tractor in walking does look very clean in the pictures. It’s £22500+vat

So hard to get used to the T Bar compared to the 6270 I have. I was reading so reviews about Walling ltd and they are all very good, and they say they only have good tractors

Ideally you need to jump in the car and have a day or two travelling the country looking at various models and specs. Then you will know what you you actually need or just plain want.
It's up to you if you want to trade off spec for price. Although, a well specified 6480 with ccls, 50km/h gearing, front linkage and pto will undoubtedly be easier sold if you feel the need to upgrade in a few years.

As the duck said with that tractor you will have speed matching but without the auto drive you won't get the user satisfaction that comes from learning how to set the gearbox up to do what you want.

I wouldn't worry about the perkins engine as its a good performer. If you service it and the rest of the tractor on or very near the predetermined service schedule, combined with a mechanically sympathetic operator, you should have a tractor that will give good service.

That said, all makes will give occasional trouble. It would be prudent to build in a safety net of a few thousand when you purchase any second hand machine as you can never tell how its been treated in the past.
Buying second hand, some people are just plain unlucky whilst others are so lucky if they fell in the river they would crawl out with a fish in their mouth.

auo drive does speed matching i leave it in auto all time, that tractor does not have that and likely not closed centre hydraulics, look for a better spec one if i were you

Does the auto drive change up the ranges or just abcdef etc? It’s been a while since been in one with the auto function

I’ve got the 6480 without auto drive and the t bar is so easy to use ficking up and down the gears is piece of cake, if honest I wouldn’t miss not having it. Front and cab suspension tho is well worth having, it’s a joy not bouncing yer head off the ceiling all day!! And if going for the Perkins engine given the choice I’d go for a tier 3 just seem bit more grunty than the tier 2.

if you flick the auto drive dial to the left just sightly so its into 'speeds' section you literlly just push the 't bar' forward and it will change right up throuhg every gear with no clutching or pressing in butoon, just push for each change, and it will speed match between each big range change i.e 2/3 3/4, i use it all the time now its really handy.

If you do alot of road work you can set it differently within the speed section at revs, when you get on the road it will literally totally automatically change up the ranges to top gear then when it hits a hill will change down as required, it pretty under rated box to be fair is dyna 6 its a clever thing, but buying second hand you want all the stuff on one now ccls, suspecnsion auto drive...

With ya on that one, i think it’s a great gearbox. For those that say it’s not really there ‘cup of tea’ I don’t think they’ve given even time to get use to it

I have a 6475, very pleased with it , bar the cab suspension. Allways wallows around too much for my liking. So a solid version could be better. The Dyna6 gearbox takes a bit of getting accustomed to, the change from 3 to 4 range has a delay, and needs to be anticipated on hills with a heavy load as not to loose all momentum. Economy PTO is worth having , as mowing etc at 1550 engine rpm makes the tractor very economical.
Many hours on your 6475

Used to pain me to hop into it after someone else had driven it and it the start-off gear was set to 1 something or 2 something, just knew there was going to be someone moaning about it shortly after! As the duck says get it changed to a 2-handed affair
