Buying An Ag machinery manufacturing company

I’m in talks with a small machinery manufacturer to purchase their ip from them. They use to make toppers in all sizes, finishing mowers, mechanical drop feeders, fertiliser spreaders, flails, hedge cutters etc. Atv mowers Mostly grass machinery which is more my interest. Being the uncertainty of imports from places like Italy and Spain going forward I think now isn’t a bad time to start making British built machinery, I use to import from Italy but the price to import now is crazy with the weak pound. Just looking for peoples thoughts, ideas, good or bad. Selling direct or via dealer network. What people would realistically like to see on toppers. Not looking to make cheap rubbish. I like good design with as few areas that trap rubbish as possible. All thoughts appreciated.

I have seen seen an upturn in manufacturing in my business currently on products that would be bought out of china/India. But they are from businesses who wouldn't be putting a container sized order in. I'm making runs of 15-50 £50 items.

I have no idea how much an IP address for a business like that would cost. Would it be less than setting up your own website spending X on FB, insta whatever platform going very narrow precise with your market running a dark ad? FB advertising is dramatically underpriced especially if you target your market.

Toppers? Proper strong gearboxes, not the commer "205" type! My ideal topper would be a 9 foot wide twin blade similar to a McConnel Rhino, but with the ability and driveline strength of a Spearhead destroyer.

Presumeably you mean domain name?

Can't see the domain name without the company's trademarks, other intellectual property and customer base being particularly valuable. It's easy enough to register a similar domain name and search engine placement is based on many factors so using an established domain doesn't have much relevance in that regard.

That’s really good, any upturn is money direct in your pocket up to the point of having to invest in more machinery to cope with increased production. Maybe we will see a resurgence in British Machinery and manufacture being the pound is weak currently.

The ip is intellectual property, all their drawings, spares, parts and supply chains. I would have a website built and put video’s on YouTube showing the build quality of the machines.

There is a balance of price versus reliability. I don’t think I can go straight in with only one line. Maybe 2 their spec. Standard duty then HD with better drive line. One machine doesn’t fit all unfortunately.

IP = Intellectual Property I assume. That is, the blue prints, manufacturing specs, model names and even the brand name itself.

It’s all the above bar name. They don’t want the name used. I understand the the reason why so will put it under my own brand.

My advice would be to keep an eye of every aspect of your new business, don't leave important jobs in the hands of others or trust people too much.
The most successful tend to be hands on unless they are very good judges of character.
Don't skimp, don't dismiss your customer, do what you say your going to do and be quick about it.

Totally agree, I’m not one for letting other people do important jobs. Certain jobs have to be done by those with expertise. My theory is if I can do all jobs required then no one person can hold me to ransom and say with out them the business can carry on. I think creating a network to sell them through will be the hardest part.

Will there be a rush to manufacture all in UK and SUPPORT Britain again ?, after they all "shafted" Britain to be made or Sourced in EU or Further a field ???

I doubt there will be a sudden patriotism again but if machines are made to a good solid standard with a good finish and solid parts and design they hopefully they will sell on merit over uk built. I think things can still be made in the uk. I just think the sharp business minds are less now days. Not saying I’m a sharp business mind.
