Buying At Car Auction

Has anyone bought cars through auction. Had a look at a few online catalogues was expecting them all to be older trade-ins or ex-lease cars but quite a lot of under 5 year old cars from main dealers. Are these just dogs they want rid of. Will there be any savings to be made going this auction route.

"We buy any car" and others sell at auction, just a numbers game to them, my trade-in went to meinhiem (googled the reg and it showed up) along with a whole more from Hartwell and we buy any car. Mine had impending doom as the dual mass flywheel seemed to be on its way out, lucky they never test drive trade ins!

We've bought a couple of old discoveries at auction years ago. We knew what to look for and saved a couple of grand in both cases.

I figured if they broke i could use the money saved to fix them. After all the dealer is only obliged to give 3 month warranty then your on your own anyway.

It's well worth doing as long as you know what to look for and know what price they should fetch at trade and retail.

Research is everything.

When working as a red plater I used to deliver in & out of Manheim sites around the country. Plenty of private people buying. Plenty of dealers as well so you are not trawling the bottom at all. There were some cracking cars to be had if you took your time and a lot come with a warranty as well. On Mercedes days the place was fill of well dressed gentlemen with their silk sari clad wives which was nice to see:)
