You’d be buying them at the dearest age and selling them at the cheapest ageWhat would be best to do? I need cattle to graze over the summer months but need them gone buy December at the latest
There are a couple of older fellas round here, retired from dairy. Bought stores too keep summer grass down, sold in autumn as they didn’t want winter work (both in their 70’s/early 80’s so fair play!!) after 3 years one came and offered me the farm, the year after the other followed suit. Both said they were paying too graze grass on their own farms. Better too take a rent cheque off me and look at my sucklers!Several do it round here, got out of cows, just buy in the spring sell in the autumn,
People get older don't want the work of cows.
Ideally sell just as SFP, comes in!
Anyone got any experience with buying cattle in spring and selling in winter? Im thinking of buying 6-8 month old steers.
Why are they so dear?I can see the spring trade being so mental that many will not bother to buy any.

Yep depends on the yearLast year they would have paid very well. This year could be very different.
Supply & demand. Why are they so dear?
Supply & demand.
In the Op s position I would look to do a deal with a dairy farmer to graze heifers
No capital tied up & gaurenteed income
Win - Win
would this be like loaning heifers over the summer?Supply & demand.
