Buying Gas Oil

Does anyone have experience with buyers clubs for gas oil? I am getting bored of ending up on the standard rate from the local supplier but I am not sure if a buyers club will be as reliable when we really need it. There are adverts from the likes of boilerjuice who claim to be cheaper but it would be interesting if anyone uses them?

I can’t find the time to do the comparison sites when we are busy! Has anyone used a remote monitor linked to a buyers group? If such a thing exists!?

Just had a look at the Certas smart meter but it costs £5 per month after an installation cost of £120, and I’m tied to the price they want to offer me. Doesn’t feel like I’ll be making a saving!

Just got a hastel monitor from my local coop. £120 one off cost and £30/yr for the SIM card. Can log on and read the tank contents digitally. Two jobs in one as the old monitor was goosed

Boiler juice are always 1-2 p more than the price I get off my supplier for tractor diesel or heating oil on the the same amounts, poor prices I find and long delivery times.

Agreed.

Long delivery times intentionally so they can get you to pay extra for fast service.....which you’d get anyway by going direct to the supplier.

I wouldn’t touch an auto tank monitor - one way to get shafted on price. Work well for gas tanks, but only because they are on fixed price 2yr contracts.

Ten minutes on the phone ringing 3 or 4 suppliers, never divulge previous prices then go back to the lowest quote & talk them down more .

....or wait half an hour til Certas ring back to follow up!

To be honest I tend to do exactly as you describe above but never talk the lowest down. I make a point of trying to support the lowest independent though - I’d rather they had my trade than Certas who keep buying up everyone else.

I have tried a well known West Country farm co-operative which claims to operate as a "buying group" on quantity, but I suspect they simply get a quote and add a couple of pence to cover their overheads, as when I phone the local fuel companies, they always quote me cheaper, and one of them would have delivered it anyway

That sounds like the sort of think I am after! Does the coop deal with all the ordering and get a good price?
