I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but......
We are about to make a major purchase in Euros and we are looking for the most cost effective way of undertaking the exchange? I once bought a car in Euros and found someone who had Euros and was willing to do a private deal. Don't know if that can be done now due to money laundering? Where can we find these deal?

Not a good time , exchange rate is shite. how much are we talking about ?

I once got a really good deal, cant really be more specific but next time I needed more changed, the place had went bust. I had worried about it though, because my money was removed right away, and their money arrived in dribs and drabs over maybe 2 weeks

£44000 would buy 440339 euro on transferwise , £147 fees with the rate of 1.10491 to the £ , which is the current wholesale rate

44000 x 1.10491=48616.4 so substantially more than your calculator says.

@PREES can I refer you to the online bank I use? I have used it often although never for more than a small number of £/€000s. Latest was 12th June when I exchanged just a few hundred £ at €1.1081. I would need only your email address for me to pick up (I think) €30 and you get the same.

Edit:Confirm it is €30 if you are transferring over €2000. PM me your email address. No harm done if you do not use it, but the charges are immensely less than UK banks charge. Anyone else interested PM me also - I might as well try to pick up €30 and if I put it openly on here then I miss out. I will send the info to an individual though if you do not want me to pick up €30 (and remember you would miss out on €30 too) and you still want to know.

Would be happy to swap £44k for €440k any time @bobk . Think you might have an extra zero there?

if not , call me....

To the OP though, Transferwise are about as good as you get, from what I hear.

fyi , it was £40k at 1.10491 which is 44,196 , less the £147 fee ,

I have been up a little while after my sesta. Had a drink of water and decided to check on a few things before going out to see to my aquaponics goldfish (some becoming close to big enough to eat) and water some cutttings for my wife - she has taken a few more of the rose she bred. Anyway at 76 and recovering from a heart operation I think I can take Sunday afternoons off if I feel like. I also took off last Christmas Day afternoon from the olive harvest. The year before I was picking olives until it became too dark to see.

How have you been amusing yourself this afternoon?
