Buying Stock Bulls

north east scotland is awash with simmentals, go to a breeding sale at Thainstone, you'll see little else
I've got some nice Baz/Whitebred cross heifers, don't know what to do with them.
Bull them with a simmental, you will get some great replacements out of them, and if you want to sell them then you will also be in the club, and folk will pay good money for the simmental x calfs!! the place is awash with simmentals because they are the ultimate suckler cows for that type of ground!!

thought you would be an Angus fan with a name like that

Think someone on here has/had one of them.
Looks a hell of a bull that. If anything maybe too big given move to 380kg carcase weights.
Maybe top, middle and bottom needs reevaluating:whistle:

A few on here will know that men who own him have no problem with carcase weights, and would quickly print out a list to show you that they hit targets pretty well.

They are exceptionally good farmers.

I will have to agree with you then base on your superior knowledge having seen the bull
I wonder what the other two look like now

The only pic I've seen of Comber since he was sold, kinda what I expected.

I've got a cheap one here (replacement for the one I mentioned earlier). I needed a bull in a hurry and he was available. £1500 out of killerton Travis (genus lim). He looks pretty poor and we are not sure if he is entirely trust worthy, but if he produces some good calves (he went to some v good cows) then he will be worth it.
Last year I bought ten lim heifers from IOM and put them to bull. As my other two bulls were with cows all ready and I wanted heifers inside to get used to us, I put a bull out of our fat pen to them (7/8 lim). I have to say the calves look tremendous (we weaned them last month).

That was the beauty of doing barley bulls, always 1 or 2 outstanding bulls in the pen,
provided the feet havent blown they will make the transition from kill pen to stock bull without a hitch

A slaughter man told me that you can tell the cattle that have been fed on lots of barley as their guts are full of ulcers, I am not sure if that is true but I wouldn't think it would be good for a breeding animal if it was
