Written by Michelle Martin from Agriland

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has swapped Liz Truss for Anne-Marie Trevelyan as the new Secretary of State for International Trade, in a cabinet reshuffle carried out yesterday, Wednesday, September 15.

Outgoing trade secretary Liz Truss is replacing Dominic Rabb as foreign secretary, leading the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Who is Anne-Marie Trevelyan?

New Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan has been an MP continuously since May 7, 2015, and is the current Conservative MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed.

She leaves the government post of Minister of State (Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) (Energy and Clean Growth) for her new role.

She has also been appointed president of the Board of Trade.

On twitter, Trevelyan said she was ‘delighted’ to take up her new role.

In November 2020, she was appointed the UK’s International Champion on Adaptation and Resilience for the COP26 Presidency – her role being to engage the governments of the countries most affected by climate change and drive support from the international community and private sector.

Trevelyan has also lead the delivery of the UK’s Ten Point Plan for a green industrial revolution.
