right here goes small solar project on the go on a 3 phase system power to be used by farm and rented out property

14 panel *280watts is 3920 watts total so call it 4000 watts or 4kw

my problem is im no electrician but am a mehchanical engineer so can hopefully work stuff out it hink

ive got a 80 meter run from boards back to mains supply (probly nearer 60 but for safety work on 80)

ive already got already in a 4 * 16mmsq 4 core armoured for this that i thought was way capable but there sales lot are telling me its not big enough surely this cant be right?

4000/240=16.66 amps i think

chart says 75 amps for 16mmsq

so i am thinking i am way on the safe side without working voltage drop out
cheers karl

The issue is voltage drop, for 16mm2 cable it is about 2.4mV *A*M so
2.4mV*16*80= 3 volts.
We did a supply to the yard from the house 150 meters with 10mm2 SWA with a voltage drop of 9.2 volts so I think the 16mm cable is quite sufficient.

Top 3 are 3 individual solar set ups to cottages
Bottom left is 2 wind turbines

All 4 showing red lights as it’s dull and no wind :banghead:

Needs to be 25mm absolute minimum , ours was 30mm swa for 80 metres

I do apologise for not replying on the other page. But thanks.
The wind feed in is something else that was already installed years ago.

Pay little attention to sparkys who are in cahoots with RTZ! 16mm is plenty, your meagre 4 kW is free so you can afford to loose a few millivolts. Nothing is about to catch fire (without a bit of warning). Remember old fuse-boards with ceramic rewirable chunks? 35 amp fusewire was tiny so go ahead!
