Calf multi feeder

Hi, normally when I get calfs I put them in separate pens. This time when I get 10 in I bought a milk bar, however they dont seem ova keen! Will they figure it out for them self? Or am I better going g back to separate pens?

Thanks x

If they are used to being bucket fed it can take a couple of feeds to get the hang of the teat. Brand new teats are quite hard and the milk flow is quite slow so they can get frustrated. Keep at it and they'll get the hang of it.

If they are genuine milk bar teats, the calves have to suck hard to get the milk, if they are used to different teats or buckets they may give up too soon, either persevere and an edge to their appetite will make them feed or swap the teats for pull through peach teats

Are the holes in the teats big enough? I would get them going on a bottle for a few days with a milk bar teat on it and then transfer them over , imo.

How old are they? I find if you buy from market they could be used to lots of different things. Ours are wydale feeders they feed 5 at a time and have a little partition in between. Took me a minute or two to get them used to it as they came off a 10 teat milk bar, but soon got the hang of it. The stronger ones tend to try and knock others off, but I either add a bit more milk or let them suck my finger while others finish. Good luck
