Calf pnemonia

Iv a stot calf showing early signs of pneumonia.

I'm gona crush him tonight and check temperature.

If it's high I intend giving him 40ml of alamycin LA. Would you also give an anti inflammatory e.g metacam? If so how many ml for a 400kg calf??

Flunixin cheaper but might need multiple injections, one dose of metacam has shown to be as effective. Hexasol is alamycin la combined with flunixin and sold specifically as a respiratory infection drug.

Alamycin and 2.5ml per 100kg weight of metacam 20mg should be grand. If I had something a little more pokey such as nuflor running out of date I would use that instead though.

I went vets the other day for some I’m sure it’s called resflour or the like. I’ll look it up on the bottle when I’m home, very affective and has a metcam type in there. One dose and temp down the next morning

Resflor is the same active as nuflor but resflor has flunixin added to it as an anti inflammatory. Too many trade names

The florfenicol AB in both is far better than alamycin imo

Give him a draxxin and metacam if it’s definitely pneumonia

He has slight crusting around eyes, slack dung and not eating cake. He's in a pen on his own which isn't ideal and I only bought him on Monday. He's eating hay but not feeding. Looks a bit depressed but not really like he has proper pneumonia.

Do I just need to give him more time to adjust? I don't want to spent money or medicate if not necessary.

Field is too soft underfoot to put him out.

OK thanks. I rispoval'd up nose last year and gave ibr live marker at same time but iv been putting off as I haven't finished buying and iv not near enough to open a 10 dose batch.
