Calf Price

What’s a fair price for Calves direct from Farm at the moment. 2 weeks old, nice strong calves had colostrum etc. Not the biggest but good shape Angus and Blues.

We had 20 last week and paid £180 for Blue Bulls and £140 Heifers.
What should the Angus be? Last year we paid £150 Bulls and £100 heifers.
Can’t help but think that they are a bit dear at the moment but don’t want to pinch them and take advantage of the current situation as there is always another day...

If you fancy a trip to sunny south Devon I have 100+ blues and Herefords that I would sell for £100 at 3 weeks. They're out of jersey's and crossbreds but decent calves. I'll get some photos tomorrow if you're interested.

A lot depends on the dam. Out of a standard black and white they are a nice buy, out of a Friesian or they are cheap, monty very cheap, Jersey they are dear, Ayrshire they are on point etc etc

Committed to these calves really, but be interested to see what they are like to compare and for the future. Thanks

We had some AA bulls from mart - including calf buyers pinch and haulage - 140. Slightly above avg calf I would guess. So maybe your AA are a little dear, but as said already, your blues probably good money.
A nice reg supply direct from farm is worth a few quid, and as you say, there is always another day

Sold some in market yesterday and trade was back quite a bit on the week before when they sold very well.
A mate was in the market buying and he said demand just wasn’t there, store trade was back considerably and fat buyers dropping prices , there isn’t enough money in the job to pay for expensive calves.
