Mainly the adlib...heifers, Angus', and adlib sounds a recipe for a dumpling

I think they'd probably turn out like that if u left them on it for to long once they get a bit of size and start eating a ruck load of it, but i get them off before they get to that stage.

Forgot to mention from the day they arrive they also have adlib good quality straw or average hay ( if its really good hay the little sh#*$ eat to much of it and go pop bellied)

It may be worth tag and testing for BVD each calf. I think it's only £3 per calf with the management tags.

I read somewhere that batches of calves reared with a PI were 43% more prone to pneumonia so I guess it isn't the loss of the PI that causes the hit on any profit.

I would be intrested to know who might be giving sire prem on angus bulls as I have some around,

Feel free to PM.

I'd be surprised as I understood that Bulls were in lower demand by all processors. Most people I know are castrating.

I also saw a presentation that suggested there would be a load of B/W bulls hitting the processors over the next 6 months (from BCMS data)

TBH iv never heard of anyone giving a sire prem on angus bulls and that includes when the plants were falling over themselves to source bull meat.

Im not convinced there is that many B/W bulls around and will be coming out in the next 6 months, I think that is wishfull thinking on the plants side as beef cattle are going to get very short by the end of the summer looking at the numbers coming thru the stores rings the last few weeks.

Was alot of cheap talk going around about a few processors not wanting bulls 12 months ago but was a big myth if u ask me, my neighbour has got 300 plus bulls an got the abattoir hounding him for some every week
