That broken trough has been sat over the hole for at least the 20 years I've been here. No idea how it got shoved off. Maybe the bull...
Anyway, looks like it needs something heavier, or filled in.

Calf looked a bit sore, think it had been in all night, so gave it a jag of metacam. Seems fine tonight :)

Had the same with a bulling heifer, fell through a complete stone cover on a reservoir. Can only think she was riding another heifer and the lid broke as she was on her hind legs. Sent me little brother in to put a chain behind its shoulders(no nice soft sling in those days!) and lifted out with 50B. Was ok but did not last long in herd.

Good outcome @David1968 .
Easy to say but when there's time to do it and if its not going to be used again i would fill it in with soil /gravel or else next time it might be a Cow or a bull even, with a broken leg

Thank you (y)

Always good to get input from someone with a degree in the blindingly obvious ;)
Why did you need to give a rude reply ?

Its actually called hindsight, if its a dry well /unused reservoir then filling is a better way than covering as covers can break and get moved, then even a small child could slip in .

If it were blindingly obvious then it would've been filled in before hand .

Well that should be bloody obvious ;) :ROFLMAO:
Its cover can only be moved with a loader.
Its getting that dry eveywhere i'm actually thinking of using it again, would be 50 yrs or so since mains pipeline was instigated there.
Crystal clear water not sure how much though but he is deep, soon find out i guess with a pump possibly solar panel powered and drinker.

Fence with a gate in maybe :cautious:

Similar here, all our water from the house used to be natural spring fed into a tank, sediment drop and we pumped directly out of it. Old man is convinced that's why we never got ill as kids and why we are hardly ill now we must have immune systems of f**king steel!
I re-instated it last year with some better pipe work and trough infrastructure it now serves about 25 acre and I can feed off it for a strip grazing situation and have water closer to fields for filling sprayer and possible irrigation going forward, not that we really need moisture in Glossop but these drier times when trying to reseed can be challenging
