What to do next.
Sent the sucker's out a week ago had to bring mother and calf back on Tuesday because calf was very scoured ,and not looking to good, the calf in question was born on the 1 April, Text book carving was up and away in 1/2 hours, shucking at mother so should be no problem with culostrum me thinks,
Took calf away from Mother and have given it packets of life aid for two days, hoping this will help, this morning put it back on mother for few minutes to get some milk from her then with drew it now back to square one calf scoured bad again, what to do next is the question was it write what i did ?.

do you think the cow's milk is too rich for the calf and that's what's making it scour?
is it still ill?
maybe keep cow in and on silage/hay till calf is a bit older and can cope better, is all I could suggest

Id have took faecal sample (direct from calfs rectum) to vets to see what's going on.
I would leave the calf on the cow, and just give him a scour formula a couple of times a day for a couple of days as this will rehydrate the calf. By pulling him off his mother, he has not had a feed for 2 days so I'm not surprised he's started scouring again. Back to square one.
Best to get the faecal sample to vets, that way they can get to the root of the problem as quickly as possible.

1. Sample to establish cause
2. Keep on milk
3. Supplement electrolytes using a gel product that won't stop milk clotting (Rehydion/Gel Lyte).
4. As long as not showing signs of overt dehydration (sunken eyes, dry nose) then we know anti-inflammatory helps (Metacam/Loxicom etc)
5. No need for antibiotics unless very ill or less than a week old.
5. Treat specific cause found
