California to ban small engines

Anyone with a business that uses any kind of internal combustion engine can expect their lives to become a misery in the years ahead. The blame for global warming and polution is being put on business and industry NOT on the consumer. The consumer wants its cake and eat it, all the goods they desire for the same price made from energy that comes out of no where, created by magic.

Not before time, we should do the same.

I really can't see the point in small engines anymore given the progress with battery's.
I've been looking, and ....
Battery chainsaws (currently) don't have the run time they need for practical work.
You'd need masses of batteries, and soon be sick of running back to change them.

It'll be counter-productive if it's rolled out. Better look at higher ethanol content in fuel.
(mind, leaf blowers are the work of the devil.....ban them right this instant)

I have never used one, but can you remember the hydraulic chainsaws? They used to run off a tractor/

I haven't used one but next door recently had a tree surgeon out to prune a huge willow and the fella had a battery saw. Loved it and said battery life wasn't an issue for what he did, he had a petrol saw too but only used it for a few cuts.. The battery one was certainly easier on the ears.
Different if you're felling trees all day but not many folk doing that.
Battery lawn mowers would work for most urban properties.

California seem good at leading the way with more and more rules. Perhaps that's why so many people are leaving the state?

Sounds like California would make an ideal 28th member of the EU. :)

I can't believe I am going to say this but looking at a lot of the stuff they come up with they make the EU look sane.

Air quality in North America is an issue in some areas but not all.

It might help if they sorted their traffic and congestion problems. And insisted on cars meeting emissions regulations.
Ironically some of the biggest polluters has been California with their multimillion acre yearly wildfires not helped by their failure to maintain old logging roads which causes access problems and lack of prevention.

He is not ag but Blancolirio has done some brilliant videos on them including of the pyrocumulus clouds from his day job.

Though given a lot are in steep valleys with rivers below and that the retardants used are phosphate based it make one wonder how much phosphate pollution as well as soil and debris there is in their watercourses it basically bare earth that is left afterwards.

so chuck your mower in thr V8 and take it to the dump using more gas than the mower would in 5 years!
Seems like a non issue to me. Joke about american V8 lawn mowers all you want, the ban is gas engines under 25 HP, and it's not hard to find a riding lawn mower over 25HP, so this applies to string trimmers and leaf blowers for commercial lawn services. Just keep a few extra batteries on the charger. Loggers will have bought up a supply of chainsaws before the ban. And they'll keep replacing parts, bar this year, cylinder the next year, crankcase the year after that.

Sure there are more 6's than V8's but I bet it's closer than Ron would think. More and more import V8's in SUV's, along with plenty of older pickups where V6's weren't as common.

Hydraulic chainsaws are used on bucket trucks, for tree trimming, or electric utility work.

The EPA has banned the sale of older style wood stoves, that's been a while. Local govts ban all wood burning in some cases, mostly in geological areas that suffer especially bad air quality, like the LA area does with smog.

California is already strict for vehicle emissions I believe. A lot of HGV's don't/can't run there because they're not compliant but are ok everywhere else. Perhaps only a matter of time before other states catch up?

Also, New York state plans to ban burning wood for domestic heating. So no more logs or log merchants, and the isolated rural homesteaders in the Adirondack Mountains will have to install ground source heating. Yeah right.
Hard to believe but US is madder than the UK at the moment.
What about all the nice timber in the uk that is currently used to heat empty sheds and mansion houses with the windows open?

We drove to California a few years back and before trucks could cross the state line many were pulled over to be checked for oil and anti freeze leaks. Any fruit too had to be dumped in the trash cans.
