I got the ritchie one last year, its still not in the 'right' position because Ive been building new dry cow accommodation, I just took some photos of it stood attached to some hurdles from my cattle handling pen, to get the claim in.

Does anyone use a calving gate against a wall? I'm thinking the yoke is bolted to the wall where it can pivot and then a pin to the ground on the other side (so it can be folded against the wall). This way the gate could be swung either way depending on requirements And folded flat when not needed.

I have my gate in the middle wall of a barn at one end, so it can be used either side and also there is another gate on the barn end side for access.

We bought a calving gate last year, which fortunately we've not had to use yet, cows have been calved free standing as we always have done, if they've needed help.

Our problem is we are short on space, so the IAE gate is in our calving yard, attached to the wall, like #11 above, but it does not form a separate pen and over the course of the winter the bedding builds up, we are never able to muck it out.

The bottom rail of the side section (which has the hinged gate set in it to bring round against the side of the cow) would therefore get buried in the straw, so we set 2 sets of hinges, one low, one higher, but that base rail can swing round unless the height of the straw is exactly right.

Thought of having an adjustable drop down 'leg' different heights (like the leg for a livestock trailer when not in use) to stabilise it - has anyone else done this?
