Cambridge roller

There was an old Cambridge roller in the hedge when we took over. I recently acquired an old disc seeder but it has nothing to close the slot. Would this work as a sort of press wheel? For direct drilling mainly but also some cultivated ground. Pulled the roller round the other day and have it a good greasing, but there was a large amount of play in the rings side to side. Could I shim the ends? Would it work?
Leaving it as is could be fine but they make a fair old clatter.
Thanks

Maybe you've lost a ring or two. How big of a play does it have!?
Yeah cold have lost a ring, looks ok thought. Has about 50mm of play which is enough to move the rings and push them on an angle. Not about to add a ring cos I’m tight, but maybe a shim or two?
