Campsite charging... Per pitch? Per person?

Doing a pop up campsite on farm for the first time...

Wondering how people charge, per tent? Per person? Extra for multiple vehicles? What do you think works best?

Also interested on people's thoughts on dogs, risk of Neospora?

Thanks,

CB

Find other campsites in your locale and see what they are charging on their websites.

Charge per pitch/tent. At £15 a night or whatever it is it is hardly onerous.

Put signs up to indicate where dogs may be taken and where they might be allowed off the lead. Put signs up strongly indicating where people can and cannot go, particularly with dogs. You don't want them wandering around an active farm yard, for example. But you have a viewing platform for the parlour or lambing shed, for example, you can put signs up for that.

Caravan storage may also be something people ask for in future years.

Many of the more long term and well organised campsites had a raft of leaflets from nearby attractions in the front porch of the farmhouse for people to pick up. The local authority or tourist board may be able to help with these.

Facilities and location?? These are the drivers for pushing the price/pitch.

Tent/vehicle + Occupant around £10-15, £3 for extra occupier. I would expect a tidy loo and showers for that.

Provide poo bags as their dogs WILL crap on the grass areas.

Get onto pitchup or similar to see what’s around and what they’re charging. It’s usually set fee for caravan and two adukts, extras then for hook up, extra adukts, extra car etc.

You have to charge per adult really or before you know it there will be families using your showers etc

We’ve had a caravan site on site for over 50 years. It’s a certified location as part of the caravan and Motorhome club.

I’m currently charging from £16 per night per pitch. That includes electric and WiFi.

But I’m seriously considering charging electric as per usage rather than all in. Some big units suck a lot of power.

Fan heaters and fridges in awnings are banned but some try it every year.

I’ve seen some sites now that have 10amp breakers on their hook ups instead of 16 which limits blow heaters etc

Stopped on site last year aimed at Campervans, and the guy said he provided power, but was considering some means of charging for useage, as the winter consumption could be silly. A/C was also a factor in high summer on big campers too...

£12/night here for campervan/caravan, £3 extra with awning, no limit on people but if a tent comes (kids with their parents) then a small charge is added... I take bins away, provide a tap for water and there’s a hole in the ground for sh!t 👍🏻 Some near me are treble that price + extras and are rammed but they also have electric, benches and nice shower blocks.
I’ll charge someone’s battery at £1/charge but most these days have good solar panels so hardly charge any now and when I asked a lot of people last year and the year before if they’d want electric they all said no as it quite often attracts the new campers and not the people who have always done it and prefer the basics.

Interesting, as I am thinking of starting a pop-up camping site, just wondering what the drawbacks are?
Can you specify no dogs or children, or will that kill it completely!
Do most people provide shower blocks?
Round here the big sites have shower blocks and toilets, if you have camping these are needed but for caravans and campervans they usually have their own toilet/showers.
main drawback is time,4 people arrived today never being here before so showed them roughly which direction and a 5 minutes chat of where from etc etc, then others turning up wanting to stay longer, others wondering what time places in the town are open till, another had had a puncture so where was best tyre garage, another could they put an awning up as they hadn’t paid for an awning before 🤦🏻‍♂️ Currently 5 vans here and that’s what’s happened today. Had a Gamekeeper from Berkshire turn up today though with a RR and Airstream which was cool as never seen one before

If you have electric hook up watch the airstream..they can suck a LOT of electric

10 quid per person per night. Compost loo, gas powered shower, a sink and a tap in the field. no electricity. Only had a few people so far but it's been fine, a bit of extra cash for not much work.
